Jose Mourinho is set to make a move for £50million striker Alexandre Lacazette.
The Manchester United boss is switching his attention from £87m Antoine Griezmann to Lyon striker Lacazette in the wake of Atletico Madrid's transfer ban this summer.
The FIFA punishment for signing under-age players means Atletico club will refuse to sell Griezmann , while they will be blocked from capturing Lacazette who was lined-up as his replacement.
Arsenal have Lacazette on their wanted-list too, but he said recently he would only play for a team in the Champions League.
The France international scored 37 goals this season, after totalling 23 and 31 in his previous two campaigns, at a strike rate of almost a goal a game.
Liverpool have also expressed an interest in the striker, but United have the financial muscle to not only easily meet the asking price, but outbid any rivals in terms of wages.
United are also keen on Everton's Romelu Lukaku and Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata as potential targets.
Morata his mind set on a switch to Stamford Bridge where he will be reunited with Blues boss Antonio Conte, his boss when they were togethjer at Juventus.
Lukaku has also had positive talks with Chelsea and is also wanted by Bayern Munich - and both strikers could move to Stamford Bridge if, as expected Diego Costa moves to China this summer.
Meanwhile, United are drawing close to an agreement to give Zlatan Ibrahimovic a new contract, despite his crippling knee ligament injury.
Mirror Sport understands the club expects the star striker to return to action much sooner than expected, possibly even before Christmas.
The club is prepared to stand by the Swede, and talks are progressing over a deal that will see him given a contract which ramps up when he returns to action.
